2013’s Clearwater Bomber Day was held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, was a big day for fastpitch softball fans. The famous Clearwater Bombers, winners of over 4,000 games and ten national titles, held the fifth reunion. The event was held at the historic Plumb House, 1350 South MLK Avenue (Greenwood) in Clearwater, Florida.
The Bombers were active from 1940 through 2007, and set records in men’s fastpitch, never to be surpassed. They placed 23 players in the Softball Hall of Fame, competed in 45 national tournaments, and were known throughout the world.
Clearwater went through the nationals without allowing a run three times. They had MVP winners and tournament batting champs, and once went 26 consecutive seasons with a national tournament appearance. The team played all over the U.S. and also competed in Canada, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.
Former players, fans, and media representatives were there. The event was sponsored by the Clearwater Historical Society, assisted by the Clearwater Bombers Legacy Project.
